Purpose

  • Generate subtitles for missing chapters so anyone with access to the book can read them during playback.
  • Subtitles are a shared library asset. They are not stored as personal copies.
  • Configuration, transcription jobs, and proofreading are admin-only. Regular users can only read existing subtitles.

Entry Paths

  • Global job desk: Profile -> Administrator Features -> Subtitle Management.
  • Per-book workspace: open Edit Book from Book Management or book details, then switch to Subtitles in the title area.
  • The Recognize Subtitles action on book details opens that book’s subtitle tab.
  • The player only reads and displays subtitles. It does not start transcription.

Configure Transcription

  1. Open Subtitle Management and check the configuration status in the top-right corner.
  2. Open the configuration dialog and enter the transcription service URL and API key.
  3. If the service is running on this machine, you can detect the default address and fill it in. The API key still has to be created in the transcription service and pasted manually.
  4. When the service is missing or invalid, the page prompts you to finish setup instead of showing an empty form.

Per-Book Transcription

  • Only one active transcription job can run for a book at a time.
  • Missing chapters are transcribed by default. A failed chapter does not stop later chapters.
  • Job cards show the book title, cover, progress, success / failed / skipped counts, and the current message.
  • Stopping a job prevents later chapters from being submitted while the current chapter can finish safely. You can resume unfinished chapters afterwards.
  • Deleting a job record does not delete subtitles already stored in the library.

Review and Proofreading

  • The subtitle tab in the book editor shows coverage for existing subtitles.
  • Generated subtitles can be edited for typos. Timestamps stay read-only.
  • External LRC files found during scanning can be viewed but not edited in the admin UI.
  • Whole-book find-and-replace stays in Subtitle Management, not in the editor.

Notes

  • Regular users cannot open Subtitle Management or start transcription.
  • If the transcription service is not configured, finish setup in Profile instead of repeating the form on the editor page.
  • Generated results are stored as shared library subtitles. The player loads the current chapter’s existing subtitles when lyrics are shown.
